I love Rasputina. Have done for years. I still consider myself lucky for finding out about their gig in Leeds last year too, even if it were a support slot for about 40 minutes. It still meant that my best friend and I after waiting *years* finally got to see them. We have also always said we were going to learn to play cello too but never have hah.
I’ve been watching a lot of RuPaul’s Drag Race as of late. Initially I only started watching it for make up tips but in honesty I’ve learnt a lot more. RuPaul comes across as a very strong role model for positivity and lets face it we all need to embrace more PMA in our lives. Anyway this song is catchy as hell and has became a bit of a gym favourite.
This film was recommended to me the other week so I watched it and bloody hell!!! I spent the majority of the film on the edge of my seat exhibiting so many different emotions along the way. I don’t want to let on which ones in case it ruins the film for you. I was left with mixed feelings towards Bobby Liebling but ones of utter awe and amazement towards both his parents and manager. I can’t say I’ve gave Pentagram much of a chance in the past but still, it was a pretty interesting watch.
I swear this song has been stuck in my head for at least a week now. Siouxsie & The Banshees has a habit of doing that to me. Total earworms. It totally reminds me of this illustration that was doing the pinterest/tumblr rounds not that long back too. Happy Monday everyone.
As if Chi from the Deftones wasn’t enough now Jeff Hanneman from Slayer has passed on (probably burning in Hell much to his delight, considering the bands disdain of the other guy). I must admit I’m not a huge Slayer fan. I like them but I’m not obsessed by them. I’m certainly not going to slate their work ethic, not at all because after Nine Inch Nails (who I fucking love and whom I’ve travelled hundreds of miles at every opportunity I could to see them) they are the only band who I can say I’ve seen more times than hot dinners, purely down to coincidence.
The first and only time I ever saw the Deftones live was at the Riverside in Newcastle back in 1998. The room was really crowded and the mosh pit was mental. I can remember sweat dripping from the ceiling and steam coming from me when we left. I vowed from that moment on that I would never go to see the Deftones live again as *nothing* would beat that gig and to this day I’ve still haven’t despite having ample opportunity to do so. I think I’m scared of disappointment to be honest. Anyway many thanks to the band and to Chi for blowing my fragile little mind all of those years ago. R.I.P.
I finally, after 20 years of waiting got to see the R.H.C.P. live, and in my hometown to boot. The tickets were ridiculously priced (at nearly £60) but I got to see 4 bands for that and I paid zero in transport since the Stadium of Light is about 30 minutes walk from my house. Reverend and The Makers were the band of the day for me, The Futureheads were good and it was nice to finally see them live, The Wombats I’m afraid I didn’t paid much attention too and the Chilli’s were good and I enjoyed myself. They played their cover of “Higher Ground” so I was happy.
I put on a gig last week for these guys and my word. They’re better live than what they are on CD and in this day in age I find that extremely rare. There were people who had heard the music from outside in the streets coming to the gig as they liked what they could hear so much. You can buy merch here.
It’s been a good week for vinyl buying. On Thursday I treat my boyfriend to a trip to Leeds to go to the Sleep gig (he had no idea where we were going. It was EPIC!). Whilst there I bought the re-release of their Dopesmoker album (it’s one of 1000 by all accounts). On Saturday we went to Beatdown Records in Newcastle where I bought the rest. I love the Unkle remix of that Grinderman song so I *had* to buy that, I’ve heard good things about the new High On Fire album and had heard a bit of the Last Step album online and I quite like Venetian Snares so I bought that as well. I fucking love records.
