Ey Up Lad…

Today is the 20th Birthday of Wallace and Gromit. This makes me feel very old.  It only seems like yesterday that ‘A Grand Day Out’ first came out and I'll have been 10.  Fast forward a few years later whilst at uni, I went to a guest lecture conducted by a nice lady from Aardman where I had the opportunity to meet Gromit (well one of the many models of him anyway).  Good times.  The 'Cracking Contraptions' are my favourite Wallace and Gromit animations, the best of which is "Shopper 13" in my opinion and my other favourite Aardman character is Angry Kid.  A quick web search spat this out from last year which I think is fabulous and Google have also wished the two cheese lovers many happy returns too.  I think I'll be getting my Niece this for Christmas as I have no idea if she's seen any of the Wallace and Gromit animations but I do think they're definitely something that she'll enjoy.  If she doesn't then I'll just steal it back.

I’m trying to update more…

It's been a pretty fantastic week here at BurnBlack.  On Tuesday I had my final assessment for my drawing module at uni and I found out that I've finally earned enough credits to pass my degree so that is University and I done with WOOOOOOOOO.  I'm pretty pleased with myself.  It's been a pretty rough ride for the majority of it but I've refused to back down and/or quit and the rewards are finally a coming.  I already have some plans for the future so watch this space. I'm just so relieved that it's all finally done and dusted.

I've also been stumbling on a few cool bits and bobs on the old internet that I would like to share with you too.

* POLAROID IS SAVED??? - Personally I'm pretty chuffed.  I've been on a mission ever since I heard that Polaroid film was no longer going to be made to buy as much of it as I could, whenever I could.  It lives in the fridge, as does all of my other film.

* This "Wonderland Expedition Kit".  I love Alice in Wonderland and this is awesome.  The boyfriend who made this is a keeper that's for sure.

And finally:

*  This video has had me in stitches.  First of all the singing is really annoying and in my opinion pretty bad.  Secondly why would Microsoft have a cleverly disguised MacBook Pro to advertise Songsmith during most of the commercial?  Hell I'm not even sure if the commercial is real or not it seems that unbelievable.

I wonder if it comes with Grindcore or Death Metal modes.

Inspiration/Things I wish I’d thought of…

Every now and then I see something I really wish I'd thought of doing first. This website and the accompanying video made my jaw drop the first time I saw it. The concept behind it is really quite clever and as mentioned on the site I have yet to see the same video twice. I also came across this video on YouTube today which I thought was quite cute.

Other than that I'm still upset about my results and I still can't get in touch with my course leader.  I'm planning on sending him an email tonight.  I've also went and bought 500 more Swarovski crystals to put on my Munny which will cheer me up a bit.  The amount of money I've now spent on him now stands at £35.76 (blooming nora).

Uni…

Things didn't go to plan with regards to me finishing university this year.  I have no idea how as I really thought I'd done it.  I've been quite upset about it and am trying to get in touch with my course leader to discuss my options.  I was really fed up but I stumbled upon this quote and it has made me feel a *tiny* bit better about coming to terms with the fact that I'll not be graduating next week.

"Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb. You may never reach the summit; for that you will be forgiven. But if you don't make at least one serious attempt to get above the snow-line, years later you will find yourself lying on your deathbed, and all you will feel is emptiness.
This metaphorical Mount Everest doesn't have to manifest itself as "Art". For some people, yes, it might be a novel or a painting. But Art is just one path up the mountain, one of many. With others the path may be something more prosaic. Making a million dollars, raising a family, owning the most Burger King franchises in the Tri-State area, building some crazy oversized model airplane, the list has no end. Whatever. Let's talk about you now. Your mountain. Your private Mount Everest. Yes, that one. Exactly.

Let's say you never climb it. Do you have a problem with that? Can you just say to yourself, "Never mind, I never really wanted it anyway" and take up stamp collecting instead?

Well, you could try. But I wouldn't believe you. I think it's not OK for you never to try to climb it. And I think you agree with me. Otherwise you wouldn't have read this far.

So it looks like you're going to have to climb the frickin' mountain. Deal with it.

My advice? You don't need my advice. You really don't. The biggest piece of advice I could give anyone would be this:
"Admit that your own private Mount Everest exists. That is half the battle."
And you've already done that. You really have. Otherwise, again, you wouldn't have read this far."

Obviously I'll update as soon as I can when I know what's happening.

End of Degree Show 2008

The end of degree show has been and gone.  Still no sign of my results.  I'm starting to get nervous/bored from the waiting.

There were only 2 plants in the show.  One of which belonged to my work heh heh.

Once you pop…

Yeah I'm a bit of a sicko at times but this not only made me laugh but also made me think "that's actually pretty cool". It'll save on funeral costs if anything.

In other news if I've done ok then by the end of this week my many years at higher education will finally draw to a close. Too say I'm pretty nervous is an understatement.

New Toys…

I finally indulged and bought my self a simple "point and click" digital camera that I can just keep in my bag in case a random photo opportunity presents itself whilst I'm out and about. I've meaning to do this for a while now because as much as I love my SLR it's a bit bulky to be carried about with me 24/7 and I'm too scared to take it out drinking with me in case I damaged it. Hopefully once I've bought a decent carry case and a bigger memory card for my new toy, my flickr page will become a bit more active. Methinks a trip to Jessops is in order since I still have £15 worth of vouchers lying around. I also need to buy some polaroid film too.

Uni is tiring and unrelenting at the moment as well hence the lack of updates as of lately. Sorry.
