Music…

A few months ago my iPod broke and had to be sent away to get repaired. I was pretty gutted as it meant I had to travel to and from work without any music to wake me up/wind me down as it was going to take weeks to get repaired. Since I was planning on re-joining the gym anyway (I still haven’t however) I decided to buy an iPod Shuffle to tide me by and I've discovered that something strange has happened.

I'm a huge music fan and am quite a purist about it too and when I originally bought my iPod a few years ago I bought the biggest one available at the time so that I could fit every CD/MP3 that I own on it (it doesn’t). This came in handy for a few reasons:

1. Its handy at parties.

2. It confirms that I probably suffer from OCD.

3. I promote/DJ at a Rock/Metal/Alt night each week (It's called Ammunition and I started it up about 2 years ago) and it's good to have as an emergency back up (especially if you have a few set lists already set up on it) in case things went tits up during DJ'ing.

4. It plays movies so is great if you're bored and traveling.

However I've found a lot of the time I would listen to music on random (which in fairness helps me prepare my set list for the next Ammunition) or I would literally be that spoilt for choice I wouldn't know what to play. In the past it proved to be rather bulky when I was at the gym too. My iPod returned fixed and fine and I've had it back about 2 months now and you know what? I've never even touched it. I'm enjoying using my iPod Shuffle more. Reason's being is that it:

1. Clips onto my bag/clothing so the bulk issue is now irrelevant.

2. I can't see what band/song is playing as there is no display so most of the time I make myself listen to whichever song is playing.

3. It still helps me with preparing my set lists.

4. It's pink.

I'm quite surprised. I honestly thought I would hate not being in control as it were. Plus I think it can double as a really cool "mix tape" style present for people because compared to the iPods they're relatively cheap at £32. You can fill it with songs that you want on it but personally I've found doing that ruins the surprise.

Photoshopped Subway Ad’s…

I stumbled upon this just now and I must say I think it's awesome.  My dissertation was on counter culture becoming consumer culture so anything related to this sparks my interest.  It's probably one of the reasons I find the film "Josie and The Pussycats" so amusing.

I've read magazines such as Adbusters etc. for years and they've really opened my eyes to the differences the Joe Bloggs and Jane Doe's of the world can make.  If you find a copy on your travels I really do urge you to flick through it and even buy it if you can be bothered.  It's a bit hit and miss as to how often I can buy it here in Sunderland however.  I found issues in a random off license next to my parents house and thats it.  The only other place I know I could buy it from is Borders but the nearest one to me again is in north tyneside.

One of my resolutions this year is that I'm trying to take part in "The 365 Project" which basically means that I have to "take a photo every day for the whole of 2009".  So far it's acted like a visual diary for me.  It's a good way to remember to carry my compact digital camera around with me everywhere I go as well (a habit I've tried to do for ages).

In other news, I've been busy so far this year being ill, drawing and doing some freelance work.  No rest for the wicked.  I also no longer work at Triplesix but I'm still getting inked there a plenty.  I was lucky enough to get a tattoo appointment with Xam in March when he comes up here to do a guest spot (it's probably going to be the only "traditional" style tattoo I'll ever own) so I'm looking forward to that even though I haven't enjoyed the healing process that comes alongside getting leg tattoos at all.  It's been that bad I've started to take daily zinc supplements as well as my usual muItivitamins in attempts to get my body to heal quicker.  I must be crazy.

On a final note I hope Steve Jobs gets well soon.  Bless his cottons.

Spending money…

Well the trip to the art store in search for Karisma's was uneventful and I returned empty handed.  I guess it all depends on what I can score on eBay now.

Today however I gave Steve Jobs and Co. even more of my hard earned dosh and bought a a 1TB Time Capsule
and this laptop bag.  I do try to back up work/music/etc. at least once a month but I must admit that unless I remind myself on iCal then it never happens and the thought of losing stuff fills me with utter dread so at least once the Time Capsule is up and running I *shouldn't* have to worry about losing stuff anymore.  Hurrah.

The bag I just bought because it was a) pretty, b) pink c) rather ladylike and c) vegan friendly.  I'm a pretty strict vegetarian and I stopped buying leather goods about a year ago.  You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find good quality, strong, non-leather bags nowadays.  The non leather bags I've had have more or less fallen to bits after a month or so which sucks.  Hopefully for the price I paid for this one things will work out happily ever after.  I do use a rucksack normally for carrying my laptop about but I fancied something different for a change.

My Geeky Tattoo.

Bez's client didn't show up today at the studio so out of boredom I made him tattoo the cute retro apple logo on my finger which we thought would be funny when I give pc users the finger as there's a lot of PC Vs Mac rivalry in my house and the studio is very pro mac.  My fingers is up like a pudding but I love it. It's so cute.
